Marketing delivery costs span an index of 100 (India) to 300-450 (US/UK/AU onshore) for an equivalent deliverable in 2026 - a 3-5x spread driven by salary load, not quality, with offshore specialist rates running $10-$70/hr by role.

Key findings

Four conclusions from the 2026 index.

01

The index spans roughly 1x to 4.5x for the same deliverable

An equivalent nominal deliverable costs 100 in India and 300-450 onshore. That spread - not any single provider's cleverness - is why the global marketing-fulfillment economy routes through a handful of geographies. The gap is salary load, not quality, at the senior end.

02

Timezone is priced into the index

Latin America and Eastern Europe sit above India and the Philippines partly because US- and EU-overlapping hours command a premium. Agencies that value real-time collaboration pay for the overlap; those that prefer an overnight-delivery rhythm capture the lower index.

03

Role seniority moves rates more than geography within a region

Inside any geography, a senior strategist commands 2-4x an analyst. The cheapest path is not the lowest-index region at any seniority - it is matching seniority to the task, then choosing geography. Paying onshore-junior rates for offshore-senior talent is the arbitrage agencies actually want.

04

AEO/GEO rates sit at a premium everywhere

AI-search specialists command the top of the band in every geography because the skill is scarce and new. This is the one role where the offshore discount is smallest in percentage terms - scarce talent prices up regardless of location - but the absolute saving is still large.

Hourly-rate bands by role

Reference hourly bands, offshore (India-led) versus onshore. Agencies usually buy scoped deliverables, not raw hours - treat these as reference points.

Methodology

  • Source layer 1: Nico Digital internal delivery and partner benchmarks across a 175+ client, 327+ campaign portfolio - the primary basis for the India-baseline figures.
  • Source layer 2: observed rate cards and published rate ranges from fulfillment providers across India, the Philippines, Latin America and Eastern Europe, collected June 2026.
  • Source layer 3: cross-checks against general offshore-services salary and rate data to bound the role ranges.
  • The cost index is normalised to India = 100 for an equivalent deliverable. All figures are ranges or index points, not point estimates.
  • No third-party-precise statistic appears without context. The annual revision will add a structured fulfillment-provider rate survey, with sample size and fielding window published.
  • Currency: US dollars. Hourly bands are reference points; most agency engagements are scoped per deliverable or retainer.

Rate index FAQ

On an India-baseline index (India = 100) for an equivalent deliverable: India 100, Philippines 100-130, Latin America 150-210, Eastern Europe 170-230, and US/UK/Australia onshore 300-450. In hourly terms, offshore specialist rates run roughly $10-$70/hr depending on role and seniority, against $50-$300+/hr onshore. These are index and range figures from Nico Digital market observation and internal benchmarks, June 2026 - directional, not third-party-precise.

Almost entirely salary load, not quality, at the senior end. The same nominal deliverable carries a fraction of the labour cost in India or the Philippines as it does onshore, because local salary norms differ - not because the work is worse. The dispersion inside every range is seniority: a senior offshore strategist can match or exceed an onshore mid-level hire at a fraction of the cost, which is the arbitrage agencies use.

It depends on what you optimise for. India offers the deepest senior-talent pool and the lowest index, with strong English content economics and an overnight-delivery rhythm. The Philippines is strong on process work. Latin America and Eastern Europe cost more but offer US- or EU-timezone overlap. Most agencies optimising for senior strategy at the lowest cost default to India; those needing real-time US-hours collaboration weigh the higher-index regions.

By role, offshore: SEO analyst $15-$35/hr, senior SEO strategist $30-$60/hr, PPC manager $20-$45/hr, content writer $10-$30/hr, web developer $18-$45/hr, designer $15-$40/hr, and AEO/GEO specialist $30-$70/hr. Onshore equivalents run roughly 3-5x. Ranges, not point estimates; agencies usually buy scoped deliverables or retainers rather than raw hours, so these are reference points, not invoices.

Three source layers: Nico Digital internal delivery and partner benchmarks across a 175+ client portfolio; observed rate cards and published ranges from fulfillment providers across the named regions; and cross-checks against general offshore-services salary and rate data. The cost index is normalised to India = 100. All figures are ranges or index points, not point estimates. No third-party-precise statistic appears without context; the annual revision will add a structured rate survey with its sample published.

Likely it compresses as the skill diffuses, the way every new marketing specialism has - but not immediately. As of 2026 the talent is scarce in every geography, so rates sit at the top of the band. Agencies that build AEO/GEO capability now capture both the scarcity premium on the sell side and a still-large offshore saving on the cost side. Expect the premium to narrow over the next few annual revisions, not to vanish this year.
